A healthy and tasty appetizer you may want to try out is the salmon roll. There are various ways of preparing it and you and your guests will surely enjoy its deliciously distinct flavor. Here are instructions to make a salmon roll appetizer.
- Ingredients for a basic salmon roll. Prepare about 6 whole cabbage leaves, a pound of canned red salmon which you will drain, 2 grated carrots, 4 cooked and mashed up potatoes (medium sized), 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise, 3 tablespoons of tomato paste, 2 cups of water, 1 piece of a crumbled chicken stock cube, and 1 ½ tablespoons of cornstarch dissolved in 2 ½ tablespoons of water. You will also need crusty bread to serve this appetizer.
- Preparation. Take your cabbage and remove the tough stalks from the leaves. Get a pan and place the cabbage leaves carefully into it before covering the leaves with water. Allow the water to boil. After boiling, remove it from the stove and allow it to stand for about 3 minutes. Drain out the water and dry the cabbage leaves with a light towel or paper towels.
- Get a bowl and make a mixture of your salmon, grated carrots, potatoes, and mayonnaise. Blend them together. Spread out your cabbage leaves and begin to spoon on equal amounts of your salmon mixture onto the each leaf, making sure that you set it at the center. Now roll your cabbage leaf up very carefully so it does not fall apart and tuck the ends beneath the roll. Get an oven-proof dish and place in your rolls, arranging them in one layer.
- In a separate bowl, mix together your tomato paste, water and your chicken stock cube. Proceed to pour the mixture over your salmon rolls. You can either bake your appetizers uncovered in an oven set at 350 degrees F for about 45 minutes or stick it in your microwave oven at high temperature for 15 minutes. Should you decide to use your microwave, use a cup of water instead with your tomato paste and chicken stock mixture. Once done, you may remove your rolls from the oven and put it aside. Pour in your stock into a pan and add in your cornstarch dissolved in water. Place over heat and stir until it begins to boil and has a thick consistency.
- Serving procedure. Cut each salmon roll in half, placing the two pieces on each serving plate. Use a spoon and place your thickened stock over the rolls. Add your crusty bread as an accompaniment to your salmon roll appetizer.
Try other variations to the salmon roll appetizer. Get away from the regular finger foods that are so often used, and have your guests enjoy your salmon appetizer recipe.
